• Question: Does leaving cert chemistry highly differ from the junior cert course?

      Hi Orlaith,
      I don’t think there’s a big difference between the two courses. The main thing is that at Leaving Cert level you go into a lot more detail but I guess that’s the same for every subject. If you have any interest in science then I would really recommend keeping chemistry for the Leaving. I always preferred biology but chemistry really helped me with understanding different parts of biology and even bits of home economics!
      There is, however, a big difference in the Leaving Cert chemistry course and what you study if you go on to do chemistry at college. Some things which were simplified at school suddenly get a whole lot more complicated.

      Hi Orlaith,

      My experience (from quite some time ago) was that the leaving went into more detail on the same topics and then added a few new ones, primarilly at higher level. So IF you like the JC chemistry and you are good at it, the LC should be no bother.
