Question: Where do you get your P.H.D
Asked by robert1 to Cathal on 18 Nov 2013.
answered on 18 Nov 2013:
You get awarded a Ph.D. by a university (in my case University of Limerick) for doing original research in some relevant field of knowledge (in my case it was mathematics).

Hi Robert, if some cases (if you are very famous and good enough) you can be awarded a honory PhD! That is you just get it without any exams. Bob Dylan was awarded one from Princeton University (USA) and (St Andrews in Scotland) for his contribution to music

Although honourary PhDs are now given to anybody – e.g. UCC in its wisdom gave one to Graham Norton (for what????) and Roy Keane (for publicity methinks).
A PhD should only be given on completion of satisfactory research work.
