      Hi Roisin,
I haven’t met too many weird species in person but there are plenty to choose from! Axolotls are amphibians from Mexico which never grow up! They stay in a juvenile state throughout their lives. They can also re-generate their limbs when they’re cut off so scientists study them to see whether we could ever regenerate human limbs. Stoplight loosejaw fish are also very cool – they produce red light which most deep sea creatures can’t see so they can sneak up on their prey.
Lowland streaked tenrecs are probably my favourite weird species (for obvious reasons!). They have specialised quills on their backs which they can rub together to produce sound – a bit like crickets or grasshoppers!
