Hi Eamoo, its a real important issue now because certain drugs are becoming easier to get and cheaper. An important thing to think about is that drug addiction doesnt happen to everyone who takes drugs, there are certain people who are unlucky because they are buildt a certain way (by their biology) which makes them more likely to get hooked. Thats why drug addicts shouldnt just be treated as criminals, but its true that criminal activity usually goes along hand in hand with the drug black market.
Some of the trends in the EU, measured by even studying water for the traces of drugs from different citys, has shown that while certain drugs are going down in popularity like cocaine, other new ones are increasing like bath salts. In the UK cocaine is very highly abused along with cannibis. In central europe theres less cocaine use reported.
Hope that gives you some ideas?
